The LightSpeedTM QX/i computed tomography (CT) scanner is the
world's first FDA-cleared scanner that allows doctors to simultaneously
capture multiple images of a patient's anatomy up to six times
faster than traditional single-slice CT scanners.
Called the single largest development in CT technology in the
last ten years, the LightSpeed CT Scanner's advanced diagnostic
features have the potential to provide better, earlier diagnoses,
reduce the number of invasive procedures, and improve patient
care.
APPLICATIONS:
Digestive tract procedures
Oncology/cancer diagnosis
Pulmonary embolisms
Cardiologic conditions
Inner ear ailments
Pediatric care
FEATURES AND BENEFITS FOR PATIENTS:
Increased comfort and accuracy for the patient
Improved speed, up to six times faster than any other CT scanner
available
Less time needed for breath holds, resulting in better patient
comfort
Improved performance, allowing for better 3-D images
DESCRIPTION OF CT SCANS:
In the mid 1970s,
CT or "CAT" scans revolutionized
x-ray diagnosis. CT scans combine the power of x-ray technology
and computers, allowing physicians to view wafer-thin cross sections
of internal anatomy to diagnose disease, internal abnormalities,
and trauma damage.
CT DETECTOR:
Key to the LightSpeed Scanner's superior performance is a newly
designed and advanced solid state detector that enables the system
to simultaneously scan multiple adjacent slices of the human
anatomy in less than a second -- the time it takes for the x-ray
source to rotate around the patient.
The new 16-row, 912-channel detector is able to capture more
anatomical information per second than its predecessor thanks
to fundamental breakthroughs in ceramics science and electronics
engineering.
